About Us

Jonathan Grant Gallery

Jonathan Grant Gallery specialises in 19th and 20th Century English, Continental and Antipodean paintings and historical New Zealand watercolours.
Jonathan Grant Gallery has been operating as a dealer gallery in Auckland, New Zealand since 1984. Jonathan Gooderham, director of the gallery, has dealt in traditional and classical paintings of the highest quality from the 18th through to the 21st Century. He assists collectors to select the finest quality art pieces, providing a scholarly background to each painting, advising on framing, hanging, insurance and all other aspects of collecting. The gallery has sold paintings to many public institutions such as London’s National Portrait gallery, The Auckland City Art Gallery, The Turnbull Library, The Dunedin Public Art Gallery, The Suter Gallery in Nelson and the Christchurch City Art Gallery.
The gallery regularly exhibits a selection of paintings from its unrivalled stock of 18th Century British, Sporting, Marine, French Impressionist, Victorian, European and Modern New Zealand paintings. The gallery also holds an extensive collection of traditional New Zealand paintings including works by C.F. Goldie, Frances Hodgkins, Sydney Lough Thompson, Peter McIntyre and Sir Peter Siddell.
The gallery has undertaken extensive work in the field of research and authentication and has published several
substantial publications on artists such as Frances Hodgkins & Sydney Lough Thompson. Jonathan Grant Gallery publishes regular exhibition catalogues and e-catalogues on artists such as Peter McIntyre, Charles Goldie, Peter Siddell, Ray Ching and Piera McArthur.
We also publish specialist catalogues such as The Art of War, Maritime Paintings, Modernist Motifs, The Seddon Collection and Peter McIntyre 2nd NZEF War Drawings. To view our comprehensive range of available publications please visit our Publications page.
In 1989 Jonathan Gooderham purchased ARTIS Gallery and moved both galleries to their current location at 280 Parnell Road, Parnell, right in the heart of the ‘Creative Quarter’ of Auckland City. Today Jonathan Grant Gallery & ARTIS Gallery sit side by side offering clients a selection of both classical and contemporary art.
In 2012 a third gallery space was developed to exhibit the gallery’s sculpture collection. The Basement Gallery offers clients the opportunity to view paintings from the stockroom and large scale sculptures.
