Born in 1956 in Surrey, Raymond Campbell was convinced even as a schoolboy that he could make painting his way of life. Gifted with natural ability he has worked consistently toward achieving his goal. During the last ten years he has exhibited in group exhibitions at home and abroad and his works have been regularly shown at the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
Campbell is an avid collector and over the years he has assembled a collection of items both old and new which he includes in his paintings. The wine connoisseur frequently includes wine bottles, often from his cellar, in his still lifes. His skill as a painter is best seen when pieces from his collection are linked with fine food, fruit and wine. His works display concern with structure, composition, tonal values and drawing.
Campbell’s career has gone from strength to strength since the late 1970’s when he returned to England after studying and travelling through Europe. He was heavily influenced by the great Dutch masters who inspired him to paint in the Flemish tradition. He has now developed his own individual style that is widely recognized and greatly admired.
