Text by Dr Michael Dunn. 17 full colour illustrations. Published to accompany the Peter Siddell exhibition at ARTIS in 2002.
Peter Siddell is an artist with a firm eye on his home turf, drawing inspiration from the landscape he is most familiar with.
Since he was very young Peter Siddell has enjoyed the unique qualities of the New Zealand landscape. From time spent camping with his parents as a child at Eastern Beach, to becoming a keen mountaineer as a young man and then travelling the country with his own family, Peter has taken the time to consider and develop an appreciation for this land.
Peter’s work is well known and loved throughout New Zealand; however his exhibitions have by and large been held in Auckland, preventing the work from being seen by a wider audience. Peter has been at the forefront of the first generation of New Zealand artists able to be supported by a local audience, holding his first solo exhibition in 1972 at Moller’s Gallery, Auckland. The successful exhibition encouraged Peter to pursue his career as an artist and today we are pleased to launch his nation wide tour.
