Britannia (1893–1936)
Designed by George Lennox Watson and ordered by the Prince of Wales (later King George V), Britannia was launched in 1893 and quickly became the most successful racing yacht of all time, winning 231 races throughout her career. Known for her dominance in the regatta circuit, she notably defeated the 1893 America's Cup defender Vigilant and claimed victory in 33 of 43 races in her first season. Refitted and updated throughout her life, Britannia continued to race into the 1930s. Following King George V's death in 1936, his final wish was for Britannia to be sunk, which occurred off the Isle of Wight. Today, pieces of the yacht are preserved in various museums.
