DR ROBERT WILLIAM MAGILL STRAIN IRISH (1907 – 2002)
Robert Strain was born in Belfast and educated at the Royal Belfast Academic Institution and the Queen’s University of Belfast graduating with a BSC and MD with gold medal. He was a consultant, physician and a lecturer in Medicine at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he practised for many years.
During the Second World War, Robert Strain served in the RAMC attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Strain was an avid artist and his watercolours were exhibited regularly at the Royal Ulster Academy and the Walker’s Art Gallery among others. Strain’s work is currently held in numerous public and private collections throughout Europe and Australasia.
