Evensong 2

This is one of the last major works painted by Sir Peter Siddell.  Aptly titled “Evensong”, which by definition is a church service held near sunset – centred around singing psalms and hymns. As with many of Siddell’s works, the landscape is familiar but not identifiable. The setting sun and gently lit chapel window give the painting a reflective and peaceful disposition, reflecting Sir Peter’s mindset at the time of creating this work.
