Overview

onathan Grant Gallery is pleased to present a special exhibition of paintings by Sydney Lough Thompson, one of New Zealand's most accomplished expatriate artists.

The exhibition brings together ten paintings from Thompson's time in France, including a number of his highly sought-after scenes of the Breton fishing port of Concarneau. These works beautifully capture the atmosphere of the harbour, its fishing fleets and the daily life of the Breton people. Rich in colour, light and confident draughtsmanship, they represent some of the finest examples of Thompson's celebrated French period.

After studying in Europe, Thompson established a successful international career, exhibiting regularly at the Paris Salon and the Royal Academy in London. Today, his French paintings are regarded amongst his most important and collectible works, combining exceptional artistic quality with historical significance.
